My Timber Frame

My timber frame is hand crafted, with traditional joinery of the highest quality. Perhaps in a rustic rough sawn hemlock, or maybe a smooth finished douglas fir material. Let's see...

These weathered hemlock beams really give that old barn feel. If you like this, it will save you big bucks as purchasing the authentic reclaimed beams are pricey. (I really love this timber frame)!

Douglas fir allows for a more formal design. Smooth finish, maybe some arches, corbels...a beautiful way to go. Notice the hardwood pegs, left proud on the mortise and tenon joints.

Open great room, ceiling beams over the kitchen and dining room, yes, this is what my timber frame will include. AND, I will have custom designed and handcrafted kitchen cabinetry to go with my custom designed and handcrafted timber frame! Both from VERMONT.

For the exterior look, I tend to like clean, simple, straight forward. This would absolutely do!

My timber frame will come from Vermont Timber Works, Inc. And, how do I know this? Because I know quality and I know craftsmanship. Seeing it every day at work and every night at home.

Timber Frame Church

This is a pretty church. Heavy timber trusses spanning 52ft with arched douglas fir beams and steel tie rods.

Vermont Timber Works traveled to Springfield, MO to install after hand crafting each timber in our North Springfield, VT shop.

The Men of Vermont Timber Works...

Yes, just the men...maybe we should put out a Vermont Timber Works Calender? Do we have enough guys for 12 months? JK guys, not to worry.

The craftsman at Vermont Timber Works take pride in their work, and it shows. We custom design, engineer and hand craft each timber frame project.

Let's start at the top...Dan is our president and he runs the shop, does layout, fabrication, material orders and more. He is a hard one to get a photo of, but here is one at the Olana Wagon House raising. Dan is on the left and Rick is on the right.

Speaking of Rick, he is our Director of Operations and handles our estimating and covers in the shop as needed. Rick can handle any job out there including turned timber columns and peeled poles. Below is Rick and Pete discussing the Mazur Project. (It was COLD in the shop & office that day).

Peter is one of our Vice Presidents as well as our Professional Engineer. We keep him very busy as he is involved in pretty much every aspect of the timber framing process. Pete even goes on raisings.

Doug is our co-owner and original VP. Doug handles more of the design and office aspects such as approving estimates, setting complexities for bids, reviewing designs, redesigning as needed, shop drawings, preliminary engineering and our awesome web page. I'm working on getting a candid of Doug, so for now....above is his mini and below is Kramer.

Doug as well as Dan are usually on hand for the raisings. AND, I found a great picture of Doug. Here at our Southern Vermont Welcome Center timber frame raising. Don't look down!

Travis hangs in the front office with Sue and me, he is the newest member of our sales team. With a background in building trades and sales, he is a welcome addition.

Kellin also worked on the Davis Project also, but here he is working on Artzt. Kellin and MJ carefully cut the timber arches.

Both tried to jump out of this picture, but stayed in it just for you. Thanks guys, arches looks great.

MJ has worked with us for about 6 months and fits right in! Todd and Jason round out our shop crew.
Jason did pretty much all of the cutting on the Mazur timber frame project. (And it's up)! All rough sawn hemlock and traditional joinery. Todd is another one that is hard to get a picture of...but I did get a one of him and MJ during the Davis Assembly. (Dan is hiding behind MJ).

Custom Timber Frame with Arched Braces & Beams

This custom hand crafted timber frame features our hand hewn option. Rough sawn hemlock, hand hewn with an adze or chisel for a very traditional look. (Great job Todd) Mortise and tenon joinery with the hard wood pegs extended and that arch. Look at that arched beam!
